Recipe for Homemade Chai Tea Oatmeal

Make Homemade Chai Tea Spiced Oatmeal

Oatmeal is such a wonderful breakfast anyway – especially when the weather is cold.

Heart healthy and full of fiber, it is one of those lovely foods that not only taste delicious but is actually good for you.

But plain oatmeal has NOTHING on Chai Oatmeal.

Smooth and creamy with the addition of almond milk, this oatmeal is so tasty, it’s a little like having dessert for breakfast – without the guilt!

When you read through the ingredients and instructions, you may feel a little intimidated by this oatmeal, but honestly, it is quite easy to make.

I do recommend that you allow yourself a little more time on the mornings when you make it, though.

Not only do you need time for the spices to steep before cooking your oats, but you will also want to have plenty of time to savor every delicious mouthful.

Save this one for lazy weekend mornings when you want something special.

Better yet, whip up a batch of this Chai Tea Spiced Oatmeal for the one that you love!

Put the ingredients in a coffee filter

Yes, we know, calling it Chai Tea is the same thing as calling it “tea tea” oatmeal.

But a lot of people in the US call it Chai Tea rather than simply Chai.

So we figured we would call it Chai Tea so that people know for sure that it’s made with tea.

Ingredients you need to make Chai Tea Spiced Oatmeal

  • ½ C. oats
  • ½ C. almond milk
  • ¼ C. water
  • 2 tea bags
  • Coffee filter and string
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg

Crack the peppercorns a bit in a mortar and pestle (or a bowl with the back of a spoon).

Do the same with the cardamom.

Put the ingredients in a coffee filter

Add the peppercorns and cardamom to a coffee filter with the nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger.

Tie the coffee filter closed with kitchen twine

In a medium pot, add almond milk, water, tea bags and coffee filter with spices.

Steep over low heat for 8-10 minutes.

Remove the tea bags and spice pouch before adding oatmeal

Remove the tea bags and coffee filter packet. Discard.

Stir in the oatmeal

Add oats and turn heat up to low-medium.

Stir the oatmeal until it is thoroughly cooked
