Emeli Sande made her mark a few years ago when Adele disappeared to have a baby. Emeli, like Adele is known for her love ballads. And with Adele out-of-the-way, we saw Emeli everywhere. But Adele is back with a vengeance, leaving this other UK gal to prove to us that she’s still got it.
Emeli Sande – Long Live the Angels
On Long Live The Angels, Emeli still comes with the ballads. But she attempts to show that she can do other things, like on “Gardens” a slightly R&B sounding track. It sounds great…just not right.
When Emeli sticks to what she knows, spiritually inspired ballads, that’s when she’s at her best.
She absolutely breaks my heart with songs like “Right Now” and “Lonely.” She is, after all, singing about the end of her marriage to her high school sweetheart.
So tears are expected. But the combination of her insane voice and her storytelling abilities is almost too much to handle.

“Breathing Underwater,” which comes early in the album, is my absolute favorite track. It’s the kind of song that can make you feel like you can do anything. I literally went for a run after listening to this song for the first time. And I HATE running.
Overall melancholy, this album is still inspirational even in it’s lower points, which garners it a high score from me.
Must Listens: “Breathing Under Water,” “Lonely” & “Shakes”
